Lucas Blomquist
An experienced Defenseman ready to deliver his experience to the Eels Elite team’s quest in the USPHL League playoffs.
General Manager Frank Scarpaci brought Lucas Blomquist here to the Eels Junior program. Lucas was drafted into the NAHL and played Tier II Junior A in Canada for the Summerside Western Capitals in the MJAHL. He also played for the Weeks Crushers (Pictou County) also in the MJAHL Canadian Jr A. He had good pedigree playing for the Omaha AAA Lancers 18U and the Rocky Mountain Roughriders U18.
This experience proved so beneficial in his player development. He came under the wing of coach John Paris who is one of the top coaches in North America. Coach Paris has coached over a dozen years in the QMJHL and many more in the ECHL, AHL and the IHL and was an assistant in the NHL. Recently head scout for Victoria in the WHL in Canada.
Coach Paris coached Lucas and recommended Blomquist to join the Eels. He told him what our track record is in college placement and that is what Lucas was looking for. Sure he had many options with the NAHL as a draft pick and a veteran in the Jr. A in Canada. But he was looking for a program that would work for him.
Lucas has been with the Eels from nearly the beginning of the year and has been one of our most determined and dedicated defenseman. He has an incredible work ethic and very strong character. He is extremely focused. He joined GM Scarpaci this season on a week long college tour where Lucas got to visit a dozen colleges, spoke to coaches, visited dorms, classrooms and got to watch a ½ dozen games.
Next week the Eels Elite team competes in the playoffs. If the Eels are going to be successful and it will, Lucas will bring his A game. That is what he will bring. He plays very strong in all 3 zones. Coach Bloomingburg utilizes him ion the power play and penalty kill. He is one of our go to men.
He is smart and makes the right plays in the D zone. He has a ½ of a second to make the right plays with the incredible speed of the game. And in fact that is what he does. He plays so well under pressure. That is why we have least ½ dozen-college coaches interested in him.
Lucas is ready willing and able to do what ever is necessary for the Eels. A complete team player
