Premier Team Captures 6 out of 8 points at the Showcase
The Florida Eels Premier Team Defeats the Philadelphia Hockey Club 4-3 in their 4th and final game of the IHC USPHL College Showcase. The Eels Premier team continues their impressive performance at the showcase. They earned 6 out of 8 points. They defeated the Ship Jacks and the Philadelphia Hockey Club. They lost 2 games in OT one in a shootout one in a 3 on 3 final. These were all high-end teams and no easy draws. The PHC is one of the top teams in the North and this was a nice win. The Eels had the jump on them from the drop of the puck. In fact, the Eels had a nice goal scored by Zach Thomas which was called back as the referee said the net off its moorings. This was highly contested as the Eels scored and nobody from the Eels was with in 5 feet from the net. It would have given the Eels a larger margin. But the controversial call seemed to pilot the Eels to heighten their attack.
The PHC poured on the fuel and emptied their tank in the last 2 minutes of the game as the Eels lead was 4-3. The PHC coach called a time out and pulled their goalie and the Eels incurred a penalty. So the pressure was ignited as were their shots on Eels netminder Jakub Kostelny
But the PHC resurgence was thawed by Jakub Kostelnyand his team’s defensive blockade.
The Eels coach Frankie Scarpaci was thrilled by his team’s solid performance in this game. This was the best game of the 4 at the showcase. A complete effort all around. We had 4 solid games. Yes, we would have liked to have eclipse the New Hampshire Monarchs and Conn Jr Rangers, but we did earn the ties and the 2 points which gander 6 points for the weekend.
The Key here is there is no doubt in the coaches and more importantly the players’ minds that they are on equal footing to the teams in New England and the North East. We know what has to be done to turn those ties into wins and one thing for sure we will be even more ready for the Mani Showcase in January when we meet the Northern and Midwest teams again.
