The Florida Eels add Veteran Lucas Blomquist to Elite Team

The Florida Eels added a major force to the Eels Elite team defensive core with the signing of Lucas Blomquist. Lucas played one year in Canadian Junior Hockey Jr. A at Summerside and was the 84th overall pick by the Wenatchee Wild of the NAHL this past season. In fact Lucas spent a short time with the Eels Elite team last season before returning to the Maritime league in Canada.

Lucas is another top player who came to the Eels from renowned coach and Eels Midwest scout Jon Paris. Lucas played for coach Paris and for the Omaha Lancers AAA program a few years ago with Eels Iron Man Defenseman Doss Allen. Coach Paris is one of the premier scouts in the business having coached and scouted for the WHL, QMJHL the NHL, the American Hockey League the ECHL and the CHL. Coach Paris has brought over a dozen players to the Florida Eels program and this was a key acquisition this season.

Lucas is a very highly skilled defenseman. He has excellent vision, reads the game very well and carries the puck with ease. He is a coach’s dream as he can move the puck well while recognizing his first responsibilities are inside his own defensive zone. He has an extremely hard shot on the point that is an ever threat on opposing netminders. He possesses the intangibles: experience and leadership that can propel the Eels to their mission: Nationals. He is a big boy 6” and a solid 190 pounds.

This past weekend, Blomquist caught the eye of a number of NCAA Division 3 college scouts and recruiters. This is an excellent move for Lucas, as he will garner phenomenal exposure and visibility at our USPHL Showcases. The Eels and the USPHL are showcase centric. That is why the Eels are so attractive. We attend 4 college showcases. Plus national based playoffs that also garner the attention of the College recruiters. It is a simple formula and the good players are starting to realize and take advantage of. In order to be signed by a NCAA college the recruiters have to see you. If you are not scouted you are not recruited.   Lucas saw this and we are pleased to have him aboard.

We will see quite a bit from number 8 in the upcoming weeks. We welcome Lucas back to our Eels family.
