Congratulations to this week’s USPHL Premier South Region Players Of The Week, representing the Florida and Southeast Divisions.
Forward: Matt Wood, Richmond Generals
Wood (‘00/Garnet Valley, Pa.) brought valuable Tier-3 experience to the Generals this year, and it’s paying off. He was in on all five goals in Richmond’s 5-4 win over Charlotte on Saturday, with a 2-3-5 line, including an assist on Brenden Meyer’s late game-winner with just 16 seconds remaining.
He has 11 goals and six assists for 17 points through 14 games this season, continuing his theme of being a better than point-per-game junior player.
Defense: Egor Nosov, Florida Eels
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, so the South Region has recognized this Russian defenseman for a second consecutive week as the top blueliner.
Nosov and the Eels split with the swiftly improving Atlanta MadHatters, including scoring the shootout-winning goal in the Sunday victory. He had three assists on the weekend to put him at 15 points in 14 contests, putting him in the top five of overall Premier defenseman scoring.
Goal: Nick Muhr, Potomac Patriots.
Muhr (‘99/Monument, Colo.) has returned to the Patriots, for whom he last competed in the 2017-18 season. His comeback has featured some big moments, including Potomac’s 4-1 win over the defending USPHL Premier champion Hampton Roads Whalers. He stopped 42 of 43 shots in that contest. He fell in the second game against the Whalers, but all told, he stopped 66 of 71 shots for the weekend series.
