Eels Elite Team Weekend Ice Cap
The Eels Elite had an away and home series with the Tampa Juniors. On Friday the Eels Elite team lost in OT 5-4 having made a strong comeback to bring it into OT. Eels Elite goalie Cedrik Robidoux faced 39 shots and held his team in there with an incredible performance. Scoring for the Eels was Adam Burtzlaff, Gage Dill, Keve Toth, Nick Tigges. While Trevor Voyda, Keve Toth, Cade Swygert and Adam Burtzlaff each picked up assists. But the Eels came up short in OT coming away with one point.
On Sunday back at home in Fort Myers, the Eels again faced the Juniors and lost 6-5. A loss is a loss but there was some silver lining in the game. The guys played hard and battled back from a 4-1 deficit at the start of the 3rdperiod to a narrow margin of 6-5 game. Many a team would have thrown in the towel and quit. The guys didn’t. This is a young team and they are learning so much. Indeed, you learn twice as much from your losses than your wins. The players are starting to understand you can’t just play hard in 1 or 2 periods. You have to come and show up for all 3 periods. Moreover, it takes just seconds to cost you a game. This was the hard lesson Friday night. In fact, on Sunday it was a few guys who took several shifts off that cost them. But you win and lose as team. So, we know where the attention needs to be placed and the guys are determined to overcome these obstacles. No excuses here. Jus lessons.
Like we said the Coaches were proud of the players effort in the 3rdperiod. They showed determination, heart and fortitude. We have to work harder on our defensive part of the game as a team. The forwards, defensemen and in net. These were very competitive games and they will make our team better. Sure, we wanted the 4 points but we cannot get these games back. We have to look forward and that is exactly what we will do. We scored 10 goals 5 in each game. You shouldn’t need to score that many to win. We need to tighten things up. But the scoring is a huge plus. Next week we play DME and despite their record we will not take them for granted. We will come out on fire. We will do everything we have to alter the current posture and stem the tide. This is a good team and we will put it all together promises GM Scarpaci and the Coaches.
