Florida Eels Elite faced off against MJDP on Saturday evening. After a 9-1 victory over the Decatur Blaze earlier in the day, the Eels were determined to gain another win for the day. The came out ready to battle and played with intensity. Filip Vitanov, held the net between the pipes and the Eels geared up for their third game of the showcase, the second game of the day.
After a scoreless first period, both MJPD and the Eels worked hard to gain the first point of the game. At 12:16 in the second period, MJDP claimed the first goal of the game, and at 13:56 they scored their second goal of the game taking a 2-0 lead over the Eels. However, the Eels would not be counted out. At 17:40, it was Paxton Campbell assisted by Zachary Bahret and Filip Nyberg lit the lamp for the Eels for the Eels closing the gap. As the second period closed MJDP lead 2-1.
The Eels relentless and determined to take the game back in their control, continued to dominate the ice the third period. At 18:59 in the third, Filip Nyberg assisted by Paxton Campbell and Spencer Hambling tied the game! The Eels and MJDP were heading into overtime.
The Eels continued to battle defending their zone, and work to gain the point to claim the game. Vitanov was focused and deflected shots that made their way through the defensive zone. However, at 3:33 in overtime MJDP claimed the final point of the game, claiming a 3-2 victory over the Eels. Although the Eels were unable to grab the winning point, they showed great strength, determination and tenacity as they worked each second of the game. They never stopped, never quit, and that is built into the fiber and essence of being and Eel! We are extremely proud of them.
