19 APR | BY FRANK SCARPACI

The Florida Eels are pleased to announce the signing of 2001 veteran forward 5’8 161 lbs. Chase Caravella, for the 2020-21season. Chase is from Conneault Lake, PA, He was a rookie last season and he played like poise and skill veteran. We were very excited to have signed him. He caught the eye of Florida Eels coaches who believe Caravella will fit perfect in the Eels program. In talking with him, we could can tell a good character kid.

We tracked his development in his young career from High School, Midgets to Juniors. We learned he has a high hockey IQ. We firmly believe he has the determination and commitment to be an impact player. We like his multi-faceted skill set that combines hard fore-checking with an eye towards the net. In Juniors, in 33 GP he scored 13 goals and garnered 9 assists being .67 points per game. Moreover, he impressed our coaches with his unwavering commitment to backcheck and shut down opposing team’s top players. He is very strong in the D Zone. That is key as good players know Defense Wins Games!

Caravella fits the mole of an Eels player. Selfless Unwavering commitment determination and dedication. A young man who wants to bring his game to the Next Level and willing to pay the price. It isn’t easy and if it were many would reach that plateau. Chase is a young man who knows and appreciates if you want to play college hockey you need to train the way our program is designed. We welcome Chase to the Florida Eels family.

The Florida Eels are thrilled to announce that Jake Court 2000 has re-signed with the Florida Eels Premier team.

The Florida Eels are thrilled to announce that Jake Court 2000 has re-signed with the Florida Eels Premier team. Jake Court is one of the few players who is a home-grown Florida Eels. He personifies the Eels player development program. He has played with the Eels mites through Juniors. This year he picked up where he left off last season where he shattered many Eels records where in 42 games, he scored 35 goals and assisted 55 assisted for 90 points. This was a huge increase from his rookie year where he scored a respectable 15 goals and 19 assists in 44 games. This  season at the Premier level he scored 19 goals and 23 assists in 44 games. That is an astounding 69 goals and 97 assists in his 3 seasons with the Eels.

Jake is a natural goal scorer. He has incredible vision and can pick corners and spots that completely  undresses many goalies. He has a very high hockey IQ. Extremely high compete level. One of the most dedicated players who ever sported an Eels jersey. He has an unwavering commitment. He is one of our most determined players. He never quits.

Jake is a high impact player who systematically captures the eye of top NCAA College coaches. He not only dominates the play at full strength but is key on special teams: He is on the team’s top power play  unit and is shut down player on the penalty kill.   . No doubt he is a top college prospects on the Eels and in the league. The Eels are extremely thrilled that he will be returning. Jake has a job to complete. That job is win Nationals.

The Florida Eels are pleased to announce that 5’8” Mathieu Rioux 2002 from Quebec City Canada has signed with the Florida Eels Junior Hockey Program.

Mathieu played for the USPHL Somang    U 20 team last season. In 40 GP he scored 9 goals and notched 22 assists for 31 points. The Eels are very excited about Mathieu joining our squad. The Eels had over 32 imports last season with  over 10 players from Canada. Our scouts and coaches spend a good amount of time scouting in both the French and English-speaking Canadian providences over the years. Players know we advance players to college  – 252 to be exact- and that is why players like Mathieu  gravitate to the Eels. Moreover, we have enjoyed a very good relationship with many of the Tier II Canadian programs having alumni who advanced to the BCHL. Maritime League, the LHJQ Montreal Rangers   to name a few and with the Canadian Major Juniors QMJHL Moncton.

Canadian players love the fact that they train on the ice  5 days per week They are in the gym 5  days per week. Additionally, they can capture double ice sessions 3+ times per week. They shoot an extra 100 pucks per day. This equates to about 700 hours of training per year. These guys share the hunger and dedication that Eels have as their hallmark. It is all about individual player development. And these guys love our winning tradition and consistency. Both Eels teams finished First in tough Florida Division. The Eels have consistently advanced one or both teams to Nationals over the last decade. That spells success. And that is winning formula players like Rioux seek.

Rioux comes highly recommended from his Somang coach and GM. He is a strong skater with solid skill set. He fits into the Eels style of play. Great work ethic. Relentless in his forecheck. Very aggressive. Creates loose puck turnovers. Has a keen eye for the net with an insatiable appetite to score but maintains defensive responsibility.  He is keenly aware you win games defensively and that is why he backchecks with equal determination  and tenacity. Equally important the Eels  are getting a first-class individual. One who has impeccable character.

We are very excited about him joining us this season and becoming an integral  part of the Eels. We expect him to be an impact player.

THE FLORIDA EELS ARE PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THE RE-SIGNING OF GRANT MINER FOR THE 2020-21 SEASON.

Grant has some unfinished business to take care of this year and he is coming back to complete his mission

The Florida Eels are pleased to announce the re-signing of Grant Miner for the 2020-21 season.
Grant came to the Eels last season from St Louis MO. We scouted Grant at the USA Hockey Nationals for High School All Stars – the Americas Cup. This is where USA Hockey assembles top high school players across the USA and has them compete over a 6-day period. They are High School All Stars and they are showcased in front of well over 150 junior and college schools. They showcase the “Best of the Best” in High School Hockey. We were very excited to have signed him. He caught the eye of Florida Eels General Manger Frank Scarpaci and both Premier coach Frankie Scarpaci and Eels Coach Alex Sanchez. All three concurred believing Miner could be a strong prospect. After several meetings and conferences, we knew he had focus and determination to join the Eels and expend the effort required to ripen into a college player. By Grant coming back it is an endorsement of the Eels program.

Although Grant came in as a rookie last season, he knew the commitment he was about to undergo was enormous: A 3-week 21-day training camp; practice 5 days per week of ice for 35 weeks; train in the gym with off- ice training 5 days per week. This wasn’t easy. It was not meant to be. If it were everyone would do it. But Grant and his fellow Eels teammates are not ordinary players. He realizes his job is not complete.

At 6’2” he used his size to his advantage being able to wear down opponents and winning loose puck battles in all 3 zones. He has a quickness to his game and good vision and unwavering tenacity. Grant brought his multi-faceted skill set to the Eels. He spit his time as a forward and defensemen. Indeed, it was because of his dual skill set, he was able to step in as a solid defenseman and he played a large part of the Eels Elite team’s success.

In 34 GP he scored 2 goals and assisted in 3 others. This was very impressive as he knew his primary job was to play as a defensive defenseman and his mission was to shut down opposing team’s top players. This was not an easy task. This was a very competitive environment and his composure was key.

He was a huge part of the team’s success in owning first place in the USPHL Florida Division all season long. That was very unique for a team to own first place the entire season. In fact, most of the season the team was ranked in the top 5 in the league. That was an incredible benchmark for this young man as he and his teammates cemented their accomplishments as the Florida Div. Regular Season Champions. Grant is coming back with one mission. Help his team win Nationals
We are excited about Grant’s return to the Eels.

Hoover . 5’8” a 2003 Left-handed forward and a native from Ft Myers He in fact joined the Florida Eels Junior program last season as a practice player. He is a perfect example of the Eels Player Development model. He attended practice with the Eels Elite team every day and joined the team daily during the off-ice gym strength and condition sessions. Indeed, Ethan did not miss a beat as he joined with the Elite guys shooting 100+ pucks per day and participated in all of the Eels Elite video sessions. He was at every Eels Elite and Premier game assisting in game day activities. The Eels coaches had the advantage over this period to take the time to work with Ethan on a lot of little things. To provide individual attention to him. By the same token many of the Eels veteran players also took this opportunity to help develop Ethan as a player. Ethan comes in a lot more seasoned as a 1st year player as he has been through training camp, daily work outs and over a dozen of scrimmages that have all ripened him as junior player.

This is a first-class high character individual. He fits perfectly well in the type of player we are looking to build our program with. We watched this young man develop in the Ft Myer Skatium Blackjack Midget program. He came to us with the hunger and desire typical of the players who are on the Eels. The Eels have enjoyed enormous success with the local players who advanced from the Blackjacks. We trust Ethan will make the same mark as the predecessors before him with the same focus and determination to be the best and ultimately advance to play college hockey. Shortly after Ethan joined us, we knew this was a kid we wanted. Indeed, we witnessed daily his tremendous work ethic to augment his solid skill set. On behalf of the entire Florida Eels program we welcome Ethan to our program.

We Are Thinking Of You Praying For Health and Safety To You ,Your Family, Your Love Ones and Your Community

During the past several weeks we all learned some very valuable lessons. These are lessons many of us have forgotten or have never known. What a dramatic turn of events and downright upheaval not only in our lives but also across the USA and the World. The things that were so important to all of us in the ice hockey world have become trivial. Just think of it. Simply 2-3 weeks ago we were planning and playing in our playoffs. For those who advanced we were competing in the Nationals. Indeed, during the weekend of March 16th my team was about to play in its first game at Nationals and it was canceled. We got word that not only was our little world of junior hockey being canceled or suspended but so wasn’t the NHL the NBA and virtually every sporting event and major event in the USA. Days later cities and counties were being quarantined and Stay at Home Quarantines were being triggered. Who knew what these terms and decrees meant?

Then CCN, Fox News and all media outlets stared reporting. Not just in China Italy and South Korea but in our very country. For athletes we are used to competing on a daily and weekly basis. We train and plan to take on our adversary. But here we learn from our medical experts and healthcare providers as well as our national, state and local leaders that this is a new foe: a formidable opponent that leaves us no game film or data in how to combat its strengths. But as Americans and World Allies we see an incredible effort to band together and mount an offensive attack and establish defensive fortresses like never before. We see, the medical research and testing by scientist and chemist and medical experts, by doctors, nurses and all the medical staffers. The calling in of the National Guard and the Army Corp of Engineers, in building temporary hospitals and medical centers…. OMG the real heroes here: a new definition of Super Stars and MVPs. It’s funny, who scored what goal and who made that save or who captured that win is clearly irrelevant. We all have our eye on the big prize now. That is a cure! That is saving lives One by One!  That is garnering masks and Ventilators; the building of Medical Centers; protecting the first responders and medical staff who is laying their lives on the line every second of every day.

Then there are the unsung folks: the grocery store clerks and pharmacy workers who have little or no protections. Let us all pray to whatever faith and to whichever GOD.

This letter to you is not about hockey. Far from it. Except in one area. I want to call on all of those who I may have met over the years through scouting, recruiting, or who may have played on my teams or against my teams, please take a moment right now and say a prayer. Those days were for fun and games. This is not. Indeed, this is the most serious time in our lives.  You know what to say. In closing I echo the words you are hearing every day:

Take care of yourself, your family, your friends and the people where you live.  Be smart and continue the social distancing. Be compassionate have more patience, as we don’t know what others may be going through…. be considerate. We will soon be back to hockey, but things will never be quite “normal” as we won’t as a collective society allow this virus to creep back upon us. We will be better for it. A better person and better in mankind.

My thoughts and prayers go out to each and every one of you!
