The Eels Elite Close Out Hub City With a 2-0 Blanking of the Aviators

The Florida Eels took on the NY Aviators in the last Elite game of the Hub City event. The Eels came out hard and placed heavy pressure on the fore check and smothered the Aviators. But the Aviators were not going to quit and countered with many solid scoring attempts. Eels goalie  Chris McFadden turned them away again and again with timely saves that kept the Eels in the game. It was close and one goal would have changed the tide.

The Eels played it tight in a playoff atmosphere. This was a solid performance by all the players

Eels managed to get on the score board twice with goals from Noah Pickens and Matt Clift .

The guys have a well deserved weekend off

Florida Eels Premier Team Defeats the Jersey Hitmen To Close out the Hub City

The Eels Premier team kept coming at the Jersey Hitmen yesterday with the same determination and fortitude that has propelled them all season long. They went down 2-0 at the start of the game but the resolve of these players The guys managed to score 3 and take the lead for the first time. But with only a few minutes remaining the Eels went down a man and the Hitmen pulled the goalie and had an extra attacker. Well Easton Moore scored and empty netter and elevated the Eels to 4-2

Then the Eels Russian connection went to work and scored an invaluable insurance goal to make it 5-2 to nail down the win.

The Guys are off this weekend a badly needed rest

Important Info On Playoffs and Nationals

Key Dates

To All Parents and Players:

It is that exciting time of year with playoffs and nationals right around the corner.  We will finish our regular season the weekend of February 28th with home games against the Tampa Bay Juniors.

The playoffs start on Saturday, March 6th and run through Monday, March 8th.  We are thrilled that the Florida Eels program will be hosting the playoffs at the Fort Myers Skatium.  The playoffs will consist of a best two out of three game series.  These are true playoff games and not a round robin.  The first place team will play the 4th place team in each of the Florida divisions.  The second place team will play the 3rd place team in each of the Florida divisions.  At this time we do not know the seedings.  Quite frankly it looks like the placement of the teams will come down to the very last game of the season. This makes for an extremely competitive and exciting regular season right to the end.

The winner of each of the playoff series will advance to Nationals.  There will be two teams from Florida to advance in both the Premier and Elite divisions.  In other words the winner of team #1 vs. team #4 will advance and the winner of team #2 vs. team #3 will advance in both divisions.

The playoff games for the Elite division will be either 9:00 a.m or 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and Monday (if needed).  The games for the Premier division will be either 3:00 p.m. or 6:00 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday (if needed).

The game format for the playoffs is significantly different than regular season games.  In the playoffs if the game is tied at the end of regulation we go into a 20 minute sudden death OT.  If the game continues to be tied at the first OT it will continue with 20 minute overtime periods until there is a winner.  There will be no shoot out to determine the winner.

This year due to restrictions in Massachusetts the Nationals will be held in York, PA on Thursday, March 18th – 21st.  It is fluid which means it means it could go to the 22nd or the 23rd of March.  Players have asked when they can go home.  With travel returning to Florida from Pennsylvania you may make your travel arrangements home beginning no earlier than Friday, March 26th.

The Eels Premier Defeat the NY Aviators to Capture 1st Place in the Florida Division.

The Florida Eels go ahead in first place to over take the Tampa Juniors. With the win today the Eels take sole possession of first place. The Eels have 54 points whereas the Tampa Juniors are edged with 52 points.

This was a huge win for the Eels and a critical win  indeed for the Eels to gain daylight in the standings.

This was a solid performance by the Eels. Strong offense and equally smothering defense. The Eels were able to thaw any sustained attack on the Eels in their zone and Liam O’Gwen closed the door shut limiting only one goal against.

The Eels return to action this Wednesday when they take on the Jersey Hitmen at the Hub City in Tampa.

Tomorrow Florida Eel Homestand Elite vs RHC and Premier vs NY Aviators

Tomorrow Sunday Feb 14th the Eels Elite team takes on the Rockets Hockey Club at 11:00 am and immediately after the Premier team faces off vs the New York Aviators game time 1:15 pm

These games are part of the Hub City event. How nice it has been to be playing such a broad spectrum of teams from across the USA. This has been a challenging year no doubt but one thing for sure the USPHL delivered  and big time. For most leagues their games went on pause at best and for many others completely canceled. Not the Eels and not the USPHL. We will finish our season with all of the games promised 44 to be exact.

We will have our playoffs and the Eels are once again amongst the top seeds. We kept our eye on the big picture. We have practiced  safety all year lone. We tested our played 11 times. We fogged sanitized and disinfected. We have taken every step possible to protect our players . We have repeatedly taken two busses.

The Eels Elite Take On the RHC This Sunday Preview

The Florida Eels Elite take on the Rockets Hockey Club this Sunday at 10:15 am.  The Eels are in 2nd place in the Florida Division with 45 points Tampa is in 1st with 51. The Eels are within shooting distance. 6 points to tie 7 to overtake the Juniors. In the Eels way is the Rockets Hockey Club. The Eels have yet to play the RHC. They sit in 1st place in the Mid Atlantic Division, but they only played about ½ the games the Eels played.  This is the 1st time these two teams square off. The last outing between the two teams was last September when the Eels handed them a hard defeat 7-3 at the USPHL Showcase in Hampton September of 2019.

No doubt the RHC are a solid team. They are sitting there with 17 wins and  5 losses this season. However due to the Pandemic restrictions,  their competition this season mainly has been the Jersey Hitmen, the NY Aviators and the Jersey Shore Whalers. The Hub City has been great for them allowing the RHC to play many other teams outside their region. At the Hub City they  faced some formable opponents,  and  they did manage a good win over the Tampa Juniors, so you know they have been tested and were successful. Tampa is a solid club capable of beating anyone. They lost to the Atlanta Madhatters by a good margin 7-3 . The Madhatters have defeated Tampa so you know they are good. The RHC lost to one of the top programs in the New England –  the Northern Cyclones 5-1.  At Hub City the RHC    still have to play the Aviators this Thursday and again the Northern Cyclones on Saturday. Then the Eels on Sunday.

We are very excited about the opportunity play teams like the RHC and the Northern Cyclones. It brings out the best in competition. These are the best Elite teams from the North and if we advance in the playoffs we would have to play and defeat them at Nationals. They play a slightly different brand of hockey. They bring everything to every game. They battle for every shift and play with a high compete level. This is the way the Eels play. We saw it on Monday with a dramatic come back over the Madhatters and despite the loss to the Cyclones we put everything on the line on Sunday.

The Eels are training quite hard and watching video to dissect the RHC. WE know they can score with 107 GF and are quite stingy in net GA 56. But so, can’t the Eels GF 145 and 125 GA. So, bring your coffee and enjoy. This ought to be a high-octane game with plenty of offense and each team trying to suffocate the other defensively. We are looking forward to a great game this Sunday. Please join us live or on hockeyTV.

Florida Eels Defeat the Twin City Thunder 5-1

The Florida Eels Premier team with another excellent win over the Twin City Thunder from Maine.  The Eels back up at the Advent Health Center Ice continued with their offensive tent attack scoring 5 goals today, 6 on Monday and 5 on Sunday for 16 in their last 3 games. Moreover, the Eels only allowed a stingy 2 goals in the last 3 contests. The team is playing to whole new level both offensively and defensively. All the players are buying in and it is showing on the ice. The forecheck has been relentless. The backchecking is smothering. The boys are playing with precision like performing surgery. Moreover, the attitude is great. The big difference from the two losses against the Atlanta Madhatters is the players are competing well.  You can see it from line one to line four. They are hungry thirsty and very determined every shift of every period.

scoring in the game went as follows:

Scoring

1st
6:41 EEL Collin Patterson (7) ASST: Olivier Tourchot (9), Crossley Stewart (4)
2nd
7:11 EEL Justin Maroszek (16) ASST: Ryan Goral (10), Crossley Stewart (5)
8:49 EEL Easton Moore (6) ASST: Tristan Roost (30)
12:25 EEL TJ Zebley (23) ASST: Taurin Haddon- Harris (24), Jake Court (24)
3rd
15:10 TCT Dawson Gendreau (5) ASST: Connor Demerchant (4), Cooper Leland (7)
19:12 EEL Collin Patterson (8) ASST: Jake Court (25), Crossley Stewart (6)

In net was Kyle Renaud (W) who turned away 23 of 24 shots.

The boys are unleashing a plethora of shots but not cheating for offense. That would be a recipe for disaster. We must keep our eye on the big picture: Playoffs and Nationals. It is not enough to win during the regular season. It is not our goal or mission to blow opposing teams away. We want to play a certain way. To win a certain way

The boys return back to Fort Myers for two days of regular practice and a game back home on Sunday vs the NY Aviators. Then next week we travel back up to Advent Health to conclude the Hub City with a game vs the Jersey Hitmen.

Be sure to tune in to tune in this week for some live interviews with some of the new faces on the Eels and with interviews with some familiar faces.

Florida Eels Premier Team Weekend Ice Cap

The Florida Eels Premier team splits the weekend going 2-2 in their 4 game homestand. After dropping their first two games of the weekend Friday 5-2 and Saturday  4-3 to Atlanta, the Eels sprung back with two of their best games all season over the Northern Cyclones 5-1 and avenged  their losses to Atlanta 6-0. They looked like two different teams from Friday and Saturday compared to Sunday and Monday. No excuses but the guys were a bit exhausted with 12 games in the past 3 weeks. That was a daunting task. It was great experience as we played so many teams from New York, New Hampshire, Boston, Virginia, North and South Carolina, and Atlanta. What an incredible experience for the players playing so many different players and teams. The intense playing experience no doubt will prove dividends in their player development. Moreover, these games have been broadcast over Hockey TV and the college coaches and recruiters have been tuned in every game. Never before have our guys garnered so much exposure and visibility in the regular playing season.

The Eels Premier team remain  in 2nd place in the Florida Division   but by a small margin. Two points. Tampa has 52 points whereas the Eels have 50 points. This will all come down to the final game before the final standings are set. The net result is the first-place team captures 1st seed and they play the 4th place team. Whereas the 2nd place team plays 3rd place. Today the Colonials are in 3rd with 41 points and Atlanta has 29 points. Don’t count out the Jr Blades as they have 27 points.

We know our job is not done. We have much work to be completed . We have ½ dozen games remain in the regular season. We are in playoff mode and you can expect the jets to be fired up over the next few weeks. We are all proud of the boys who found the determination and resolve to come back and take the final two games of the weekend.

We head to Advent Ice Center this Wednesday a sole game for the Premier team while the Elite remain home for practice. 11:00 am game time. We play the Twin City Thunder out of Lewiston  Maine. Come join us live (Parents are welcome) or on Hockey
