Florida Eels Green Team Given a Spot in the JR A Division as well as their College Open Spot

25 Jul by Frank Scarpaci

This past weekend the Eels originally were going in with 1 Junior A team in the Sr Chowder Cup and 3 College open teams. But due to an incredible surge in players we added a 4th College open team and our Green team was elevated to play in 2 Divisions.
This added significant exposure and amazing experience all around for the players.
The Eels had over 100 players in all with the Pro Am Sr Chowder Cup

Next weekend we have 6 more teams competing in the Pro Am Junior Chowder Cup 3 2005’s and 3 2006’s
That is 120 players We have already been inundated by correspondence from the New England Prep Schools and Canadian Prep Schools as well as many top Midget AAA programs looking at these young guns. These are seeds we plant for our Eels program future.

Great Results at the Mini Chowder Cup

The Florida Eels Mini Chowder Cup teams were a resounding success. The Eels fielded 4 teams. 2 teams in the 2008 and 2 teams in the 2007 Divisions. In the 2008 Division, the Green team went 2-1 -1 and finished in 2nd place in their bracket. The 07 Grey came up short on wins but the experience was incredible. They played against some of the best players in the USA and Canada.

The 08’s the Grey team owned it. Tied for 1st place 3-0-1 Wow. They were so impressive. All around. The 08 Blacks did so well. They captured a huge win and were in all the games.

The players came in and garnered so much experience. The exposure was second to none. The 4 teams 80 players made us proud

They will return to their teams and definitely make them move to the Next level. The coaches did an incredible job. We had 8 coaches over the weekend games scrimmages and practices.

He Led his team to several National debuts including the Finals

Carlson went off to play at NCAA Div. We are very excited about Jonathan coming on board.  We have some unfinished business to do here. We have some very talented Defensemen joining us this season and Jonathan’s skill and experience will prove invaluable.

Kayde has so much upside. In addition to his high-level skill set, he possess impeccable character. He is an extremely hard worker and dedicated to his craft. He is a true team player. A Selfless and humble individual who fits perfectly in the Eels system. We welcome Kayde to the Eels family.

EELS SIGNING ALERT: The Florida Eels are pleased to announce the signing of Mark Phillips out of Burnaby, BC.

EELS SIGNING ALERT: The Florida Eels are pleased to announce the signing of Mark Phillips out of Burnaby, BC. The 2003 power forward played for the Louisiana Drillers in the NA3HL where he scored 15 points in 26 games. “We plan on Mark being a really impactful player for us this upcoming fall.  He contributes in many ways, but his willingness to engage physically jumps out at you. He creates a lot

of time and space out there, and gets offense in-between the dots. He’ll defiantly be a handful” said Coach Scarpaci.

EELS SIGNING ALERT: The Florida Eels are pleased to announce the signing of Benjamin Allen out of Texas

EELS SIGNING ALERT: The Florida Eels are pleased to announce the signing of Benjamin Allen out of Texas. The coaching staff talked to Allen early on this summer and loved his enthusiasm to the process of getting better through junior hockey. Allen is friends and former teammates with another Eels signee, Alex Evanyk.  Last season, Ben scored 19 goals and 37 points in just 14 games for the Richardson/Rockwall High School team.  Allen also played for the Dallas Junior Penguins U18 team. “We’re very pleased with what Ben can bring to not just the team, but to his game as well.  He’s quick, likes to contribute offensively but you can tell he takes pride in the defensive zone,” said Coach Scarpaci.

The Florida Eels are thrilled to announce the signing of its second player from Sweden Alexander Edskar to its Premier team for next season

The Florida Eels Sign Second Top Swedish Player from Futures Stars Academy

The Florida Eels are thrilled to announce the signing of its second player from Sweden Alexander Edskar to its Premier team for next season. Edskar is a 2002 defensemen who we scouted at the Future Stars Identification Camp held in Sweden in May. This camp was one of the top Junior prospects camps in Europe with extremely high end players, many of which who were drafted by the USHL and selected by top USA College programs.

We loved what we saw in Alexander. He too is a high end player. He has great size and uses his physicality to wear down opponents in his zone. He owns the house so to speak. A goalies best friend.

He is equally effective along the boards. He has strong gap control controlling entry. He is smart with 1st outlet passes and jumps in on the transition game to create offense with 4 guys on the line rush.

He is an ever present threat on the offensive blue-line. He has a nice heavy shot that gets through to the opposing net-minder. You can tell he is a smart player. High Hockey IQ and plays with a high compete level. During the weekend of scouting, all 4 Eels coaches selected Edskar as our top pick for our Defensemen

He will undoubtedly be an impactful player for the Eels this season. We are very happy he will be joining our lineup in the Fall

USPHL Premier Ranked Number 1 in all Tier III Junior Hockey

Way to go guys

Rating The Junior Hockey Leagues – 2021 Tier III Edition

by AdminJune 21, 20210

The criteria that was used in rating these six leagues, was how do teams within the leagues compare when developing players who move on to the NHL, NCAA, USHL, NAHL, NCDC, and Canada Junior A hockey programs. The size of the league as in number of teams was also taken into account for depth of player talent throughout the league. The level of promotion of commitments was also taken into account for this particular rating.

  1. USPHL – Premier

The USPHL, is the United States and North America’s largest amateur hockey organization. From coast to coast, no other organization does as much for player development and promotion at every level. The NCDC is showing by its use of the USPHL Premier as its development pool that it is a proven recipe for successful promotion and growth of players. The number of Tier II players coming out of the USPHL Premier increases every year and is a testament to great coaching. These players are moving on to the USHL and NAHL as well as NCDC. The USPHL Premier by volume leads the way in NCAA and ACHA College commitments.

2. Eastern Hockey League

The EHL, is a top producer of NCAA D-3 prospects at the Tier III level. The EHL also continued to move players on to Tier II when those opportunities were presented, yet they do not match the volume of the USPHL. The EHL has defined itself as a league where they are focused on NCAA D-3 placement.

3. USPHL – Elite

The USPHL Elite is a very nice development platform for the USPHL Premier, and is now being used for some NCDC development.  Purposefully younger than the Premier division, this is definitely a league designed for younger players or those who want junior hockey but are not satisfied with their AAA options. Many players on Elite teams are getting called up to USPHL Premier teams, and many are getting opportunity with NCDC clubs, while some are still going directly to College hockey.

4. NA3HL

The NA3HL is trying to change it’s image. While many gimmicks are in place to make it appear that players are getting more opportunity in the NAHL, the numbers of call ups and actual games played do not support that idea of promotion. That said, the NA3HL has done a better job of moving players to Canadian Junior A leagues like the NOJHL, SIJHL, CCHL and OJHL. NCAA commitment numbers are simply not there to support a higher ranking.

5. EHLP

The EHLP, the second division under the EHL is better classified as a league for players with little to no AAA hockey experience. Younger and less experienced, EHLP players are seeing some players moved up to the EHL. The EHLP while trying to develop players simply doesn’t have a talent pool developing for Tier II or NCAA levels that is measurable.

6. GMHL

The Greater Metro Hockey League is once again the worst league in North America. Congratulations.  While the Ontario Canada teams did not play, Western Canada teams did play a short spring season, and it was simply a money grab. Signing anyone desperate enough to play, it was simply bad hockey and you could not put enough lipstick on it.

Next week we will publish our top Canadian Junior B ranking.
