The Florida Eels are thrilled to announce our first College Commitment for the this season:   Taurin Haddon-Harris has committed to NCAA Division III Curry College. Taurin is captain of the Eels Premier team. Coach Frankie Scarpaci comments, “Taurin is one of the toughest competitors who ever wore an Eels jersey. You know when he is on the ice. He dominates every shift. No doubt the best player on either team when he is out there. He does it all…scores, sets players up, captures assists, best at puck retrieval, relentless on the fore-check and equally strong on the back check…. Taurin just broke the record for the “Florida Eels All Time Leader in Points for a Single Season”.

His accomplishments have been recognized and honored by the USPHL. Taurin has repeatedly been chosen as “Player of the Week” and selected by the league as “Player of the Month” several times this season. He was selected as “Mid-Season All Star” by the league.  Additionally, Taurin is a phenomenal leader on and off the ice” GM Scarpaci emphatically refers to Taurin as the MVP in this league. Bar none. He plays an extremely high tempo game…unwavering commitment to his team and has an unequaled will to win”

Taurin has been one of the top recruited players by NCAA college coaches. GM Scarpaci has received a plethora of calls on him. After every game and showcase he has been the topic of college coaches’ inquiry. Despite these accolades, Taurin is a very humble player. He always credits his teammates and coaches for the wins and his and his team’s success.

Taurin is very excited about becoming a Curry College Colonel. He has done his due diligence and loves what Curry College offers both academically and with its hockey program. Curry College has a rich New England tradition and a storied legacy. Taurin is also very excited and enthusiastic about playing for coach Peter Roundy. Coach Roundy is building a solid program at Curry with a bright future ahead.

Taurin knows his job is not done here with the Eels. He echoes….”we are a team on a mission. We know what got away from us last year as it slipped through our fingers. That won’t be the case this year. As Captain Taurin intends to lead his team all the way. He plans to leave and bestow a major mark on the Eels. He loves playing here and is a true champion. The Florida Eels  wish Taurin the very best. This is another milestone for the Florida Eels Its 290th College commitment to its program.

USPHL Premier Players Of The Week: South Region

Week of Feb. 9, 2022

 Florida Division

Forward: Taurin Haddon-Harris, Florida Eels

Haddon-Harris (‘01/Boca Raton, Fla.) was massive with a four-goal, five-assist weekend in a 2-1 weekend run against the Atlanta MadHatters. Haddon-Harris stands at ninth in USPHL Premier scoring with 73 points in 38 games.

Defense: Ethan Tamborski, Palm Beach Typhoon

Tamborski (‘01/Irwin, Pa.) put together a strong weekend, despite a couple losses to the Florida Jr. Blades. He posted two goals and added one assist and was even on a team with only one plus rated player. Tamborski also had three blocked shots and led the Typhoon defense in ice time.

Goaltender: Tyler Ledoux, Florida Jr. Blades

Ledoux (‘01/Charlton, Mass.) put together a fantastic 33-save effort on 36 shots by the Palm Beach Typhoon to earn his third win in his last five games. With that victory, he pulled himself to even on the season in terms of record with 7-7-2-0.

Southeast Division

Forward: Jonathan Davenport, Carolina Jr. Hurricanes

The third-year Jr. Hurricane and fourth-year USPHL Premier veteran Davenport (‘01/Lithonia, Ga.) had his best weekend, scoring three goals – one shorthanded and one on the power play – to help the Jr. Canes earn the sweep of Potomac over the week. He has nine points in 22 games this season.

Defense: Cam Perez, Charlotte Rush

Perez (‘02/West Hartford, Conn.) played in his first two Premier games since October, and simply excelled following a January that saw him named an Elite Southeast Defenseman Of The Month. With the Premier team against Hampton Roads, he posted one assist and had a fantastic overall performance showing he has no problem “playing up.”

Goaltender: Niklas Seppanen, Carolina Jr. Hurricanes

Seppanen (‘01/Oulunsalo, Finland) put up wins in both of his games against the Potomac Patriots, stopping 45 of 50 games for the weekend to improve to 12-11-2-0 on the season. He also has an impressive 2.23 goals against average and a .925 save percentage in this, his first North American hockey season.

Forward: Daniel Sieto, Hampton Roads Whalers

Sieto (‘05/Mississauga, Ont.) gave the league-leading Charlotte Rush fits over a three-game weekend over which he scored four goals and one assist for five points. Defense: James Dunham, Charlotte Rush

Durham (‘01/Frisco, Texas) scored three assists for the Rush over the weekend from the blue line to help them go 2-0-1 in three games against their traditional rivals. A defending member of last year’s USPHL Elite Champions, Dunham was his team’s plus-minus leader at +5 and hits with 7 over the three-game weekend. He has 12 points in 20 games this year.

Goaltender: Devin Degestein, Carolina Jr. Hurricanes

Degestein (‘05/Wetaskiwin, Alb.) enjoyed his first career junior win when he stopped all 18 shots he faced from Potomac. Degestein is a recent acquisition for the Jr. Hurricanes as they prepare for the 2022 playoffs.

Florida Division

Forward: Justin Colton, Florida Eels

The Eels, enjoying a 14-0 winning streak, have crept to within two points of the league-leading Charlotte Rush. Colton (‘03/Parkland, Fla.) has started Florida with a line of 2-5-7 while scoring in all four of his first games of this month. His best of the four games was a 1-2-3 performance on Feb. 5 in the first of three against Atlanta. Colton now has 33 points in 28 games on the season.

Defense: Ryder Patten, Florida Jr. Blades

The Jr. Blades are 2-2 out of the February gate, enjoying a pair of big wins against the Palm Beach to end their most recent weekend. Patten (‘04/Drayten Valley, Alb.) had three goals and added one assist over the three more recent games. He had the game-winning goal on Sunday, as well. Defensively, he blocked two shots and made two hits while leading the Jr. Blades in ice time over the four games.

Goaltender: Jacob Mork, Florida Eels

Win, win and win some more. That’s the motivation for Mork right now as the Eels get ready to try to push their hot streak through the early March Florida Division playoffs and into the Nationals. He went up against the Jr. Blades on Feb. 2 and stopped 25 of 27, and then gave up zilch while stopping 17 against the Atlanta MadHatters on Feb. 6. He is now tied for the league lead in wins (15) and he is second in goals against average (1.75) and save percentage (.943).

The Florida Eels Premier Team Defeats The Madhatters in Game 3 of the Weekend Series to Take 2 of 3 of the Matches

The Eels Premier team take on the Madhatters in 3 games over the weekend. Game one the Eels were edged 3-2 in a disappointing loss. They controlled the territory, shots on goal and overall play but came up short. Last night the Eels avenged their loss by handing the Madhhaters a serious loss 6-4 as the Eels dominated throughout the evening.

Today the Eels once again looked like their 1st place status overwhelming the Madhhaters in their 4-2 win. This was a costly loss for Atlanta as they are fighting to hold on to 4th place as a final spot for a playoff run. Palm Beach a bit behind is still alive and fighting to overtake the Madhatters.

The Eels take on Palm Beach this weekend while the Blades travel to Atlanta for their weekend series.

So much is riding in the next few weeks of games. The Eels are looking to secure 1st place while Tampa is pushing up to take back 1st place. However, the Eels are focused more on being playoff ready than the 1st place title. We still have some pieces to put in place and fine tuning our troops. Meanwhile, the Blades are looking to hold on to 3rd while Palm Beach is strung to edge out the Madhatters.

The Eels Premier take on the Jr Blades on Wed and the Typhoon this weekend while the Blades travel to Atlanta for what undoubtedly will be tough games.

The Eels Elite Team Shutout Madhatters 6-0 in Game Two of Weekend Series

The Eels Elite continue to dominate the Madhatters in their weekend series as they put 6 goals passed the Atlanta goalies and allowed none in game two. This was all offensive assault on the Madhatters net minders from the drop of the puck. The Eels set in motion a systematic and relentless battery of shots with 16 in the 1st period 17 in the 2nd and 9 in the 3rd 42 total. The Eels smothered the Madhatters from sustaining any offensive threat on them with holding them to 5 in the 1st period 6 in the 2nd and a stingy 6 in the 3rd for only 17 in the entire game. The Eels defensive play was phenomenal here and it frustrated the Madhhaters to no end.
