The Florida Eels are excited to announce that Troy Andrews has committed to New England College for the Fall of 2022.

Andrews marks 305th college advancement  to college who played for the Eels program. That is indeed impressive.  So far this season from our Premier and Elite teams we have moved 5 players to college.

The Florida Eels are excited to announce that Troy Andrews has committed to New England College for the Fall of 2022.

Andrews, a 2001 RW from Etobicoke, ON,  Canada joined the Florida Eels mid-season. He stated playing this season for the Potomac Patriots. I must say they did a remarkable job in developing Andrews into a solid player. At Potomac in 37 games he scored 11 goals and notched 29 assists. For the Eels in 5 games, he tallied 4 goals and 8 assists.  Moreover, in playoffs for the Eels in 5 games he scored 5 goals and 2 assist.

He is a clutch player. Comes through in key games and situations. For both the Patriots and the Eels had had 2 game winning goals this season for a total of 4.  He is fast and has excellent skill set. A very shifty player and has a nose for the net. He is fun to watch and a pleasure to coach. He was a very valuable member of the Eels Premier team in their final stretch at the Regular season, the playoffs, and Nationals.

Troy is very excited about heading to New England College and playing for coach Tom Carroll. He is a very experienced coach with proven track record. The Eels have had several of its alumni advance on to NEC. The NEC Pilgrims have done quite well on the scoreboard and Troy will be the type of player who will have an impact in their program.   Troy had several opportunities amongst the colleges teams but felt NEC was his best fit. Both from an academic and hockey perspective. Moreover, playing in New England where it is a hockey bed really intrigued him. And attending school in New England which is a foundation in education was a no brainer.

Andrews marks 305th college advancement  to college who played for the Eels program. That is indeed impressive.  So far this season from our Premier and Elite teams we have moved 5 players to college.

We wish Troy the very best. He is a high character individual. He has all the intangibles to do it right. Determination and commitment and realizes that College Hockey means college first. We know he will make us proud.

The CCM Showcase is one of 13 Post Season Showcases the Eels coaching staff will be attending this Spring and Summer

The Florida Eels are thrilled to announce Mathew Schoer has committed to Westfield State University ACHA Div. 2 program for the Fall 2022.

The Florida Eels are thrilled to announce Mathew Schoer has committed to Westfield State University ACHA Div. 2 program for the Fall 2022.

We are indeed excited about Matthew’s signing with Westfield State University’s program. Matthew has been an outstanding netminder since joining the Eels. This year, he played in 14 regular season games played 958 minutes, had 14 wins,  only 20 GA, 6 shutouts, a 1.25 GAA and an impressive .958sav %.  This season, he was scouted and recruited by quite a few college teams, but Matthew simply liked what WSU had to offer in terms of academics and hockey. As he said it is a perfect fit for him. He is looking forward to studying in New England, as it is the heart of academia. The area is so rich in culture and education. There will be so many fantastic opportunities for his future.  And we all know the deep roots in hockey.

Schoer is  high character individual says General Manager Frank Scarpaci. We had our eyes on Matt for several years and we brought him to the USPHL Spring Showcase last year and he was lights out in 4 games.   Premier coach Frankie Scarpaci echoed, “We knew we had a legit goaltender on our hands. In fact, we signed him right at the showcase. All of the Eels coaches were uniformly in agreement.”

The Eels Elite head coach Mitch Hill, commented, “This kid plays a big-league game. He possesses outstanding skills set. He settles things down for his team. Gives them a chance to win…Has ice water in his veins. He was a real winner as his record with the Eels reflects. He was part of the incredible tantum of him and Jake Mork. It is unusual to have two goalies on the same team who are the two best in the league and support one another.

His commitment marks the Eels 304th college commitment for our Eels program. This is an impressive quite accomplishment. Advancing players to college is always the Eels end game.   It has been an honor and a privilege to have had Matt play for our Eels Elite team and be an integral part of our program this season. We wish Matt the very best in his college career.

The Florida Eels Premier Team Fall to the RHC in the Semi Finals

Regrettably the Eels Premier team’s National Run came to an end on Monday afternoon as the Eels team were edged by the Rockets Hockey Club 3-2. It was an amazing season where we have seen these boys grow tremendously. They overcame much adversity with a number of injuries but nothing held them back. This team showed incredible resolve and continued to impress the college scouts throughout the season.

They were in 2nd place for much of the season focusing on the development of all of its players. Very little attention was placed on the standings or rankings. It was far more important of the coaching staff to develop all of his players echoed Premier Coach Frankie Scarpaci. If you focus on the standings you tend to lose sight of the big picture. Only a few players play and the remainder are not fully developed to the maximum potential.

The formula proved strong as the standings took care of themselves. When injuries happened to top 3 forwards we were able to slide other guys in and we did this without skipping a beat. The Eels forged forward and won the Florida Division Regular Season Divisional Title and then went on to Defeat the Madhatters for the top seed in the playoff round, thus advancing to Nationals. This has been 10+ years running for the Eels Premier team to advance to Nationals.

The Eels did very well at this season’s National run advancing once again to the semi finals. But they ran into a solid RHC team and a hot goalie.   The Eels were excited with the huge OT win over the Charlotte Rush that enabled them to advance to the Semi Finals. This was one of the top games at the Nationals. The venue was packed standing room only. Wall to wall fans and college coaches present. The Eels will have another dozen players committed to college this season. In the end that is the reason why players come to the Eels.

There were and are no regrets. I cannot remember a group of boys from both the Premier and Elite teams that have showed unwavering commitment, determination and dedication to be the best they could be. These are all high character individuals who made us all very proud. We as owners, GM and coaches are honored to have had these boys be part of our family, our program and our teams.
