The Florida Eels Premier team is proud to announce that Trevor Voyda and Hunter Howe were selected as co-recipients of the prestigious Don Awrey Defensemen of the Year Award.
Annually the Don Awrey Award is given to that defensemen who shows exceptional defensive skill at the highest level. Don Awrey was a herald NHL player who was part of two Stanley Cup winning teams with the Bruins and one with the Montreal Canadiens. He played 16 years in the NHL including the Boston Bruins, St. Louis Blues, Montreal Canadiens, Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Rangers, and Colorado Rockies. He was considered one of the all time top Defensive Defensemen.
It is an honor and a privilege for both Trevor Voyda (3 goals 24 assists 27 pts) and Hunter Howe (1 goal 10 assists 11 points) to be selected for this award. They have showed commitment and determination to their position. They have proven not only in each game but in daily training which is 4-5 hours per day for 35 weeks unwavering dedication to make themselves the best they could be. They are consummate competitors. They both enjoy very high hockey IQs. These two players are selfless and are completely focused on their team. The Eels Premier team is once again at the top of the Florida Division. This season the Eels have finished 1st in the tough Florida Division for the last 4 seasons. Both Voyda and Howe have played a significant role in these accomplishments. These two defensemen helped backbone the Eels team last year to the Nationals where they were inches from winning a National Championship. Voyda a 4 year veteran of the Eels and Howe a 2 year veteran of the Eels. This year they are hungrier and more determined than ever. All eyes are on the big picture. First winning playoffs and taking on the Nationals. Both young men are moving on to college next season and we wish them the very best.
Congrats to Trevor Voyda on the MBH Conference All-Rookie Team Award for 2022-23 Season
Trevor plays for McKendree University Men’s college program. He had an outstanding season A standout on defense

The Eels Elite team were in game mode. All dialed in. Ready for playoffs . They were not underestimating the Jr Blades. We did in prior games and were on the back end of a win. The Eels finished the regular season by capturing the Divisional title and wanted to make a statement to their cross town rivals who was on top.
This was a very physical game. The Blades came out hitting everyone who sported an Eels jersey. But the Eels kept their cool. You cannot win by hitting alone. You need to put the puck in the net and that is what the Eels did: 4 times and the Eels goaltender blanked the Blades denying shot after shot. And the defense did their job as well getting the puck out with precision passing and maintaining the blue-line.
The Eels had their eye on the big picture: Playoffs so they played discipline and solid hockey. In the end the boys had all smiles. Great job
Next up practice and prep for playoffs. March 11-13th at the Skatium
The Eels Premier team came out on fire. In Playoff mode. Their execution was incredible. Duncan Rolleman turned away over 45 shots and only allowed one. He is back and stronger than ever. The boys in front of him played with its smothering forecheck and suffocating back check. They also found seams and exploded when chances were there. Yes it is amazing that this defensive team turns on the jets to bring its high octane offense when needed.
Guys another job well done.
The Florida Eels for over a decade are synonymous with absolute dominance. Florida Eels are not only dominant in the USPHL but all of Junior Hockey. For over a decade Florida Eels teams have won Divisional titles, won Playoffs and advanced to Nationals. In fact, for the past five years the Florida Eels Premier have won its division, for five years they have advanced to playoffs, and for five years straight we have advanced forward to Nationals. The Elite team has won its Divisional title for the past two years, and for the past four out of five years have advanced to Nationals. We have all watched as hundreds of our players have earned and have been awarded Players of the Week, Players of the Month, and Year End Allstars. However, this is not the measure of a Florida Eels.
These successes alone are not what measure our greatness. It is the success of our players, our Eels family, that measure our magnitude. It is watching 330 past Eels players advance forward in their goals of playing college hockey. It is 330 players gaining thousands of dollars in scholarships to help them attend these schools, in hopes of developing their future careers. It is the undeniable mark that is branded within an Eel forever.
Once you have become a Florida Eel, that culture, that family is something that in ingrained in you forever. Players of years past, continue to show up to games, and support players of Eels present. Watching these former players return, hearing about their careers, and meeting their families is a beautiful gift. The Eels have surely had a significant impact on the lives of these young men now fathers, husbands, and career men, and we are grateful and honored to have had them as be a part of our teams, our lives, and of course our family.
Join us March 11th -13th as the Florida Eels Premier and Elite compete in the Florida Divisional Playoffs to further the quest to the USPHL Nationals. Can’t join us in person, be sure to tune in live on @myhockeytv
Easton Moore Hits 100 Assists
Congrats Easton for reaching this incredible mark in your career. 100 points is very difficult to reach but to garner this is in the extremely completive and tough Florida Division speaks volumes in terms of your player development and skills set
Eels take down Columbia Infantry 4-2 in yesterday’s contest. Columbia put up a tough fight scoring in the 3rd period to make it 3-2 coming within 1 goal to tie things up. Expectantly they pulled their goalie and the Eels got the empty netter to close things out. This was a solid game by both teams. The win by the Eels make it 5-0 over the Infantry this season.
With this win the Eels now own 30 wins on the season This is coach Mitch Hill’s 2nd year capturing 30 wins. .
The Eels take on their cross two rivals the Junior Blades today at 9:15 pm
