Florida Eels Elite split their weekend at the Indiana Showcase, walking away with two wins (Chicago Cougars 5-2, Decatur Blaze 9-1), and two loses (MJDP overtime 3-2 loss, and Fort Wayne Spacemen 5-3). The Eels Elite showed grit and hard work, tenacity as they continued to come out each shift working for the win.
The Florida Eels finished their showing at the Indiana Showcase, Sunday morning at 9:45 am when they took on the Fort Wayne Spacemen. Filip Vitanov between the pipes the Eels, battled for another win. At 3:50 in the first, it was Fort Wayne Spacemen who captured the first point of the game. However, at 4:28 in the first Dominick Dantona assisted by Zayn Haddon-Harris and Jackson Carnes tied up the game 1-1. The Eels and Fort Wayne closed the first tied 1-1.
It was a scoreless first half of the second period, before Fort Wayne claimed their second goal at 13:33 taking a 2-1 lead over the Eels. The Eels tied up the game 2-2, when Jackson Carnes assisted by Zayn Haddon-Harris scored the Eels second goal at 15:01 in the second period. However, the Spacemen again took the lead 3-2, at 15:46. At 16:07 Fort Wayne Spacemen grabbed their fourth goal of the game, and closed the second period leading 4-2 over the Florida Eels Elite.
The Eels continued to fight their way back, and continued to shoot the puck in order to close the two-goal gap in Fort Wayne’s favor. At 7:57 in the third period, Paxton Campbell assisted by Brantlee Hoffman scored the third and final goal on the Eels behalf. The Eels closed the gap, by one the score was now 4-3. The Fort Wayne Spacemen scored their fifth and final goal of the game at 19:37 claiming a 5-3 victory over the Florida Eels.
The Eels work ethic was present as they tried to fortify every opportunity available to them to make a comeback against Fort Wayne, but in the end, time just wasn’t on their side. The Eels finished the showcase splitting with two wins and two loses, and will head back to Florida Monday. The Florida Eels Elite will head to Palm Beach, Florida to take on the Palm Beach Typhoon Friday, November 15th, and return home to play the Florida Jr. Blades on Sunday, November 17th. We are extremely proud of the boys and look forward to watching more exciting hockey in the days ahead.
