Press Release: The Florida Eels announces its 6th College commitment for the 2014-15 playing season. Shilo Vega committed to Worcester State University as his home for the next 4 years. Shilo who has been with the Florida Eels Elite team for the past 2 years. No doubt he was amongst the USPHL Elite league’s dominant players. He was selected All Star Player of the Week over the last 2 season more than 10 times.  He was selected as League All Star two years in a row and last year league MVP forward. He was amongst the lead leading scorers over the last 2 years. He is a big 6”3” 195 pound power forward. He dominates every time he is on the ice.

 

Vega consistently made NAHL teams over the off-season. He tested his skills and abilities as a barometer to where he compares amongst his peers. In the end he wanted to return to his roots. The Florida Eels. He chose the Eels over NAHL teams because he had faith the Eels would get him to NCAA college hockey.  Now that he committed to WSU he realized that dream come true.

 

Shilo played for Coach Scrapaci when he was a youth player before moving back to Alaska. GM Scarpaci reached out two years ago bringing Shilo back home to Fort Myers and join the Eels Junior program.

 

Vega knew what the Eels had to offer in training and preparation for college. It was intense: 5 days a week 3 hours of ice and off ice, for 40 weeks. The Eels program is showcase Centrex; meaning they bring its players to the top showcases in the USA and Canada to garner them the maximum exposure and visibility. That is the key to playing in the USPHL. They put players before the coaches so recruitment is easier.

 

For Shilo that was exactly what he was looking for. To train at a program that was aligned the way he plays. All out determination leaving nothing left on the ice. Scouts compare his to a  Joe Thornton type player. Power forward, big goal scorer, team leader and an excellent skating and skill set.

 

Shilo also wanted the exposure so he could play in front of the New England College scouts. Indeed that is exactly what he received. Over his tenure with the Eels he played in over 12 USPHL Showcases.

 

At these events, Shilo was fortunate enough to garner a plethora of interest from over a dozen colleges. He pondered and deliberated his choices and options. In the end Shilo was so pleased to select WSU. He went on a number of campus visits, attended ½ dozen NCAA college games watching  the college teams. The bottom line: He just loved every aspect of WSU. A new and invigorated coach at WSU, they play games at Holy Cross, and will be joining fellow Eels such as Max Kirkwood, Doss Allen, Cory Lignelli to name a few.  The WSU coaching staff showed Shilo that they wanted him. They made him feel welcome and very much a part of their future.

 

Shilo is bent on making WSU a major force in College Hockey in Massachusetts. He is thrilled and excited to be moving to the Next Level of his playing career. Way to go Shilo. Congratulations
