USPHL Premier: Players Of The Week / Southern Divisions
By USPHL Staff, 01/16/19, 5:30PM EST
Congratulations to our Players Of The Week from the Florida and Southeast Divisions!
Forward: Jared Figueroa, Florida Eels.
Figueroa (‘99/Scotch Plains, N.J.) has been on a scoring tear recently, and that continued into mid-January. He scored two straight hat tricks on Jan. 9 and 12. First, it was a three-goal performance in the midweek win, and then he scored three and added an assist as the Eels defeated the rival Florida Jr. Blades for a second straight time on Friday. Figueroa crossed the point-per-game threshold, scoring 20 goals and 38 points in 36 games.
On Sunday, the third-year Eel helped his team to its sixth straight win and first place in the Florida Division.
Defense: Thomas McGuire, Hampton Roads Whalers.
McGuire (‘99/Massapequa Park, N.Y.) was all over the ice and also on the scoresheet for the Whalers this past weekend. In a split weekend against the Atlanta Jr. Kings, he picked up the game-winner on Saturday in a 6-1 win, and factored in with a goal and an assist on Sunday, though the Whalers fell 3-2. He now has seven goals and 13 points in 22 games.
Goal: Dominik Vollenweider, Atlanta Jr. Kings.
The Swiss product, a ‘99 from Zurich, returned to the Kings – with whom he played in 2017-18 – in December. On Jan. 13, he handed the Hampton Roads Whalers just their third regulation loss in USPHL Premier play. He stopped 28 of 30 shots as the visiting Kings avenged a decisive loss from one day earlier, helping the Kings in their neck-and-neck race for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Southeast Division
