The Florida Eels Premier team goes 2-0-2 at the USPHL IHC Showcase. It was a great opportunity for the boys to get to play some of the Northern Teams and garner exposure in front of college coaches and scouts. The nice thing about the games we played was they were extremely competitive. Two of the games went into OT and the two wins were very close. This environment placed our guys in a steaming pressure cooker. That is what you have in playoffs and Nationals so whenever you can gain that experience it benefits 10-fold for the players.
The games also give our coaches an opportunity to do more tweaking and adjustments. The games against the Northern and Midwest teams are not just novelties. Good coaches examine every aspect of our game. You get to compare our games strategies and team makeup vs different style of play. We saw how close these teams are and how any team can defeat any team in our Premier Division. The competitive level is very high. Our players came out of this weekend with 6 points out of a possible 8. We did this playing some of the top teams in the North and New England. We battled the Conn. Jr Rangers the NH Monarchs the Skip Jacks and the Philadelphia Hockey Club. These were all top seeds in their divisions.
The PHC was undefeated prior to the Showcase and the NH Monarchs were at the top of their Division. These are all teams we will most likely play in the playoffs/Nationals. The Eels remain in 1stplace with 33 points and amongst the top in GF and GA.
GM Scarpaci had a fruitful weekend talking with a number of College coaches and will be quite busy this week with follow up calls and lengthy discussion. The Eels are back to work this week practicing today and have games this Friday vs Atlanta at the Skatium at noon and then Sunday at the Skatium 1:00 pm vs the Jr Blades.
